Requirements

I am a local customer and do not have a major credit card. Can i rent with cash or debit?                                      Yes with manager's approval, you can! We require to see your driver's  license and a current utility bill under your name. The address on the bill must match the address on the driver's license. In addition, a deposit of $150.00 or $250.00 plus the rental is required depending on the vehicle renting.

Can I use my international driver's license?                                                                                                                  A valid drivers license issued in your state or country is acceptable as well as international licenses.

Do I need insurance?
Yes, insurance is required by state law. You must have full coverage insurance transferable to your rental vehicle. Island Discount Rentals offers third party insurance at reasonable rates, if you don't.

I would like to decline your coverage and use mine. What should I do?                                                                    Please bring your proof of insurance (insurance card under the driver's name). Remember that in order to decline our coverage, your insurance must be a full coverage transferable to car rentals. Always remember to contact your insurance carrier to check what kind of coverage you have. This also includes a letter from your credit card company.

What are your age requirements?
You have to be at least 21 years of age.

 

Service

Do you offer airport pickup and drop off?

Yes, we have an off-site location but offer free airport pick up and drop off (within a 15 mile radius of our location). Just call us when you arrive and we'll be right there         (808)315-7229          

 

Method of payment

What forms of payment do you accept?
You can pay check-card, credit card, or debit card. Cash payments are accepted with a manager's approval.

Can I use another persons credit card for renting a vehicle?
Yes, but the card holder must be present themselves with proper i.d. to sign the rental contract at the time of rental.

Deposit

Do I need a deposit?
Yes, a deposit is required for security purposes. The amount of the requested deposit will be returned to you.

                                                                                                                                               The deposits is based on the type of vehicle, usually from $150.00 to $250.00 for cash deposits.

What's the cancellation policy?                                                                                                                                       Your partial payment is refundable if we are notified within 5 business days prior to the start of reservation. The cost of the refund is 6% (3% for original transaction & 3% for the refund). If we are not informed before the 5 business days, its not refundable. This is due to our inability to rent the vehicle because of the confirmed reservation with the renter.

WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO CANCEL A RESERVATION AT ANYTIME DUE TO MECHANICAL ISSUES CAUSING SHORTAGES. CUSTOMER WILL RECEIVE A FULL REFUND IN THESE CASES!

Type of vehicles

What type of cars do you have?
We have economy, standard mid size, minivans, SUVs.

Do you have automatic or stick shift cars?
Most of our cars have automatic transmissions, but we do have a few stick shift when available.

Do you have air conditioned cars?
Yes, most of our "Standard Size Cars" & "Mini Vans" have air conditioning. Not so in most of our "Ugly Cars".

Do you rent cars by the hour?
No, all of our vehicles have a two day minimum.

Are your vehicles allowed on Saddle Rd/ Mauna Kea access?                                                                                    Yes we do allow our vehicle on Saddle Rd, but not Mauna Kea access.

No, cars can be rented for a minimum of 2 days only. You may return the same day without no additional charges.  Discounts may be available for 1 day rental. Must ask management before renting the vehicle, to see if any discount on a particular day is available for you to receive.

Accessories

Do you offer accessories with your rentals?
We do have accessories that can be rented with the vehicles. We have child seats, gps navigation systems, and beach gear when available.

Additional charges

Is there an additional charge for more than one driver?
There is no additional charge for up to 3 drivers.

                                                                                                                           Fuel must be brought back the same way it was given to you at the time of rental.  If not, there will be charges ranging from $6.00 to $9.00 per gallon missing when returing the rental..

What are your smoking and pet policies?

All vehicles are designated as non-smoking. Automotive Solutions Hawaii & Car Rentals will charge a cleaning fee of up to $250 if the vehicle smells like it has been smoked in, when it is returned.

Pets are not allowed in rental vehicles except service animals.  Service animals used by customers with disabilities are allowed in the vehicle without a carrier.  Automotive Solutions Hawaii & Car Rentals will charge a cleaning fee of up to $250 if the vehicle shows evidence of pets, when it is returned.  

Is there an additional charge for underage?
Yes, there is a $15/day fee for drivers 21-24 years old.

If I rent a vehicle for a month can I get a good price?
Yes, vehicles can be rented by the month and receive a special offer.

Returning vehicles

Can I return a vehicle to the other location?                                                                                                                     No, we have only one location now.                              

If I have a flight leaving during your closing hours, is there anywhere I can leave your vehicle?
Yes, please call us in advance to make arrangements.
